Description

The Sure-Grip Expanding Collet has true part length control built into its design. The workpiece locates against the face of the arbor or the face of the work stop to ensure no longitudinal end movement. All expanding collets (except the Model #100) take a machineable work stop that bolts directly to the expanding collet arbor or the machine's spindle, ensuring no end movement of the workpiece. The #400 and #500 5C-style Work Stops are bolted to an optional threaded or taper-nose spindle mount. The work stop is machined by the customer to the location requirements of the workpiece.

Work Stop

A customer fabricated work stop should be used to eliminate length control problems when grinding or turning faces. Counter bore and end clearance is required to make certain that the collet can expand and move adequately to grip the workpiece.

NOTE: When the full length of the collet grips the bore of the part, the I.D. of the workstop is bored to 1/64" (.3968mm) above the maximum part I.D. To reduce gripping problems, when holding on less than the full length of the collet (short grip ping), the ID of the work stop should be no more than .002" to .003" (.0508 mm to .0762mm) above the maximum bore diameter being gripped by the collet.
